As the name implies, active recovery is an action-oriented approach to recovery . We did not sit still while in active addiction, we worked hard to find the ways and means to get the next fix. If we can harness that same energy and apply it to a set of working principles geared towards recovery then we can recover and regain our place in the world.
I work with those who want to get better and are willing to make changes in all of these areas of their lives. I use the experience and skill gained from years of work as a personal trainer to help people with the physical aspects of recovery and getting healthy. I draw from my own recovery journey to help inspire and motivate people to believe that recovery is possible.
I combine elements of addiction counseling, cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) as well as mindfulness techniques to help clients work through the emotional, psychological and spiritual challenges they’re facing.
To help clients move forward into a life of recovery I draw from the 12 Steps and use recovery coaching skills to navigate all the changes that will need to happen.
My role in active recovery is to hold you accountable to doing the work, the work of creating a new reality for yourself by removing old behaviours that don’t serve you any more and replacing them with new behaviours that benefit you and allow you to grow.
An important part of the process is to identify and manage relapse warning signs and triggers by creating a relapse prevention plan.
