addiction counselling

The ‘bio-psycho-socio-spiritual model’ of addiction and recovery resonates with me because it encompasses work in all the areas affected by addiction. It’s a holistic process so that recovery can happen in each of those areas.

Reaching out for help can be a daunting experience as we don’t know what to expect or what to do next. My role is to help you come to terms with the consequences addiction has had in your life and to offer counsel and insight into the limiting beliefs driving the destructive behaviours. I’m also here to help you plan and execute the next steps. Whether that involves one on one counselling or referral to in-patient treatment. I’m also here to help communicate with family and loved ones involved.

My skillsets include

Why some of us get addicted and some of us don’t is still not exactly clear from a scientific point of view. The belief is that addiction is the result of a combination of factors including:

  • Genetic Predisposition (the ‘addictive gene’, chemical imbalance etc.)
  • Mental Health and Mood Disorders
  • Adverse Life Experiences (Trauma, abuse etc.)
  • Social Influences (Friends, social media etc)
  • Family Dysfunction

Addiction damages us

  • Physically (withdrawl, overdoses, poor diet, accidents, diseases etc)
  •  Emotionally (stunted emotional development, trauma etc)
  • Psychologically (depression, anxiety, grief etc)
  • Socially (loss of connections with family, friends, social isolation, loneliness)
  • Spiritually (we lose faith and feel completely disconnected from any higher power)
